Looking for an affordable and family-friendly ski vacation? Then look no further than Grand County, Colorado and Granby Ranch (formerly SolVista Basin), offering 35 trails, 6 snowboard parks, a Nordic center, and even a sledding hill for kids. Located in the heart of Colorado ski country southeast of Rocky Mountain National Park, Granby Ranch is conveniently located 78 miles from Denver and 15 miles north of Winter Park.
Granby Ranch allows every family member to ski within their own comfort level by offering a variety of mountain terrain for beginner, intermediate and advanced skiers. This Colorado ski resort features a series of lifts and trails from green to black, and all trails lead back to the newly renovated Base Camp Lodge, between the East-West slopes of the ski basin, making it easier to allow kids to explore on their own.
Choose from five progression parks at the Terrain Park at Granby Ranch with brand new additions: Ted’s Secret Stash, the natural log park off the Jackalope run, has added five new features for the adventurous, and 11 newly-thinned acres between Bounty Hunter and Jackpot for those who enjoy tree skiing. Of course, old favorites are also returning, such as Bounty Hunter, Rimfire, Speculator, and beginner mini-terrain Park off the side of the Milestone Lift.
Your winter adventure doesn’t have to end at sunset. Granby Ranch puts the lights on for Saturday night skiing and snowboarding for family fun at three terrain parks. Kids can also enjoy the snow play area and hang out by the fire pit.
Full, half-day and multi-day lift tickets are available, prices vary according to three seasons (Regular, Winter Holiday, and Spring Break), and kids 5 and under are always free. Ski Season typically runs from mid December to early April. The slopes are open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., except on Saturday, open 5 – 8 p.m. for night skiing and tubing. Sign up for ski and boarding lessons at Ski Granby Ranch’s Accelerated Learning Center, or call 800-757-7669. Rental shop is located within the Base lodge.
Get you après on by stopping at the Seven Trails Grille, known for its gourmet pizza and wide variety of cuisine from around the world (French, Italian, Moroccan and North African), live music, happy hour specials and incredible views of the slopes.
From Winter Park (about 25-minute drive), go North on US Highway 40 toward Granby; before you get to the light adjacent to the City Market (on your left), you’ll make a right onto Village Road. (Look for SolVista / Granby Ranch signs.) Drive about two miles up Village Road and you’ll come to the Granby Ranch Base Lodge.
